Welcome! Another mother of 3 boys! You, Sunny, Michellel, and I should start a support group. Welcome!

From AmyLou on Sun, Aug 03, 2008 at 13:20:27

Thanks for the welcome. It's along story of how I came up with the nickname Allie, and I didn't realize how many Allie's there were out there, so to avoid confusion I canged my nickname to something a little closer to my given name. Thanks again for welcoming me.

Before this year, I never ran more than 5 miles and that was in High School. At the beginning of this year, when I started training for the Wasatch Back my long runs were 2.5-3 miles walking every other block, and I felt the same as I did today after my 10 mile, in which I would run for 4 minutes and walk for 1 minute. It's a great feeling that I have come so far.

Keep up the good work and you will be the star of the Mother of 3 boys support group. I just hope you keep enjoying running. You forgot to say that you got up a 6 oclock to go running. That is an acomplishment in itself.

From Allie on Sun, Aug 03, 2008 at 13:08:09

Thanks. :P Yes it is an accomplishment in itself, but you don't have to tell everyone I'm lazy, :) Love ya.

To anyone reading this who might be confused by how Allie became AmyLou. It's along story of how I came up with Allie from my given name, and I didn't realize how many Allie's were out there so to avoid confusion I went with a nick name that is closer to my given name.

Welcome to the blog, its such an amazing accomplishment to look back at where you were and where you are isnt it!? Its hard to explain to non runners and thats why this blog will benefit you. Keep up the good work!

From AmyLou on Mon, Aug 04, 2008 at 11:46:20

Walter, Thanks for the welcome! I'm glad my husband introduced me to this site. It took him a few trys before he succeeded in convincing me to join. It was olny after he showed me the last paragraph on the home page that I decided I could include myself in this blog.

From Walter on Mon, Aug 04, 2008 at 16:34:30

It took some convincing for me as I was in the same boat as yourself. You'll see it be a benefit for you. Thats funny, you have 3 boys. I have 3 girls! Keep up the good work. Im not sure if I know your husband, but ive probably bumped into him at some point.

Because I ran more than I have ever ran in my life, on Saturday I decided to make today an easy recovery day. I went to the track and did two miles, walking every other lap. Even with that little bit my legs were protesting, but hey you do what you can, rite?

Hi! Welcome to the blog! It's great to have another husband/wife team on here! You are smart to get running while your kids are still little. I wasn't as smart as you and waited until last September, (age 41), to really start running. Good luck in your "conversion to running" (as your husband called it on his blog). I think you will really like it if you stick to it!

BTW: I am married to Tom who is also on the blog.

Kim, Thanks for the Welcome. I'm enjoing running more and more.

How was the "Dam race"? I have heard good things about it. I might do it next year.

My legs felt looser today, and for the most part running felt realy good.  I've been dealing with shin splints all year, and I can't seem to get rid of them.  They fade for awhile and then flair up again.  Most days (all day) I have a dull ache in my lower legs, and when I run or just after I finish running I have a painful burning sensation on the inner side of my shins.  I've tried getting new shoes, resting and cross training (swimming), ice baths, and stretching before and after my run, and they just won't go away.  Anyone have any other ideas?

I did it!  I finished a half marathon.  It took me 2 hours 42 minutes and 37 seconds.  I know that sounds slow to a lot of you guys but it's a huge accomplishment for me.  I'm so excited that I was able to reach this goal.  It was olny last year that I thougt I'd never enjoy running, but I'm learning to love it.   I think however that I'm going to take two weeks off of running and do some cross training to let my legs heal.

Wonderful job!!! It's not that slow.....think of all the people behind you! I know I was behind you just a few months ago :) Keep up the great work and don't worry about being"slow" think of all the people who don't run at all!!

As I said I'm takeing a couple weeks off of running to give my body time to heal.  Today I walked for 10 min. about 1/2 mile.  Thats all I really had time for after getting my kids off to school and getting my self ready to go to my class.

I've found my Monday class is to early for me to be able to get out and run so I decided to make this one of my cross training days.  Today I did a short kick boxing work out with my punching bag.  It's been a while sence I worked out with my bag, but it sure felt good.  Hopefully I'll be able to run tomarrow.
